Local make-up artist scores big at film festival
The Turks and Caicos Islands Film Festival has begun to provide worthwhile opportunities for locals in a number of ways, including on a professional level. One of those who benefited was make-up artist Shenique Higgs, who was contracted to work her magic on some of the Festival's participants, including head honcho, and executive producer Jasmine Guy. Higgs said she actually relished the opportunity as a local, to provide such a service for the internationally acclaimed actors and producers. "I was introduced to Jasmine Guy by my jewelry designer friend, Alicia Shulman. I met Alicia earlier this year at The Somerset Fashion Show. Alicia's jewelry was featured in the show and I provided make-up artistry for the models in the show." She noted that the following day Shulman contacted her and invited her to provide make-up artistry for a jewelry photo shoot she was directing at The Somerset.
Alicia has worked with the Girlfriends sitcom, the Tyra Banks Show and her jewelry is often featured in magazines including Elle, Oprah and Essence. Her jewelry has been worn by Sharon Stone, Kelly Ripa and Gabrielle Union, and according to Higgs they became friends instantly. Higgs said Guy explained to her that she wanted a shimmering radiant natural look.
"I love to play with color so when she showed me what she was wearing I wanted to highlight one of the hues in her dress without being too over the top. I applied eyelash enhancements and egg plant eyeliner beneath the eye to make her eyes pop. I also used a luminizer beneath her blush to give her a dewy sun kissed glow. I played down her lips because she had dramatic eyes. I also used allover face and body bronzer to make her upper body glow and to minimize her tan lines. She was happy with my work and I gave her a few beauty secrets and names of products she liked that I used."
